About the job
Akamai is looking for a senior level engineer with systems programming background to develop streaming software, applications, and monitoring systems. The candidate will be a part of a highly skilled and motivated team that develops Akamai's Internet Content Delivery solution for Streaming.
The candidate must be a first rate C and C++ programmer with experience of streaming technologies, TCP/IP networking, multithreading and server development. Development experience on Linux or Windows 2003/2008 operating systems is required. Knowledge of one or more of Windows Media, Real, QuickTime or Flash streaming is preferred. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated problem solving abilities, good teamwork and communication skills. The candidate need to be goal-oriented, have the ability to handle interruptions while fluidly switching between several projects and deal with issues that arise when running a highly available service.
Responsibilities include:
You will design and implement features and applications for the Streaming servers, seeing development from conception and design through testing and deployment. You will implement scalable and robust systems using C/C++, Perl etc. You will also work as Engineering Subject Matter Experts for escalations from our customer facing groups.
Qualifications:
* MS or BS degree in Computer Science, with at least four years of C/C++ development experience
* Knowledge of Internet protocols and standards (including TCP/IP, HTTP, RTP/RTSP, RTMP) and of networked and distributed systems
* Knowledge of systems and network programming on Windows or Linux
* Development experience with Windows Media, Flash Streaming, Real, or QuickTime is a plus
* Knowledge of Perl, Python and other scripting languages
* Working experience with Visual C++
* Working experience with Silverlight/.NET is a plus
