Each facility in Chennai acts as a backup site for the other. Redundant server systems are deployed as hot-stand-by at these offices as backup systems to enable business continuity in the event of a disaster at one facility. Periodic online replications of data are performed between facilities to protect critical data. iSOFT has full backup processes, onsite/offsite backup media storage, fully redundant communication links, network connectivity, clustered and resilient computing equipment, power, and data centre security. Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity is an on-going process and iSOFT is committed to continually improving upon the processes. As part of this initiative, an offsite disaster recovery site location is being built at the Hi-Tech city at Hyderabad. Server facilities will be maintained at this site to serve as backup for the facilities in Chennai and be ready for use in case the need arises. High-speed fibre channel NLD links will connect the Chennai facilities to the DR site to enable on-line replication of critical data for smooth switchover in case of any emergencies. This site will also be connected triangularly to the international location to enable additional communication link redundancy. Periodic backup of all data will also be maintained at the DR site. Laptops and workstations with preinstalled software will be maintained for immediate use by key members should the need arise.

iSmart has in place an analytic process to identify what might cause harm or loss (identify risks), assess and quantify the identified risks, and to develop and, if needed, implement an appropriate approach to prevent or handle risk causes that could result in significant harm or loss. The disaster recovery plan at iSmart is currently being developed and tested. In the first phase, the two existing centers in India (Mumbai and Bangalore) act as the recovery site for each other. The distances between two centers are approximately 1500 kilometers and hence the probability of both centers affected by a natural disaster at the same time is very low.  If one of the centers is affected, one-third of the users from affected site shift to other center within 48 hours (excluding the day of the disaster) to continue their normal operations.

The prime activity of Intoto is to develop its own IP for software products in the security, wireless and voice domains. Development, release management and support processes are all based on a central repository system which is shared across all its three centers -  Hyderbad, Chennai and Santa Clara. Intoto follows a three tier backup process where daily backups are taken at module, project and server level. Intoto development center at Hyderabad has facilities for about 200 engineers with 100mbps switched LAN connected to a Gigabit fiber optic backbone. The Layer2 intelligent switches forming the LAN  are connected to a central Layer4 switch router. The server room is separately connected to the back bone and hosts mail server, CVS server, issue tracking system, proxy server, intranet site etc.  The servers are HP dual processor systems and use Windows 2000 and RedHat Linux operating systems. Business Continuity

IGT has a business continuity planning process in place for situations caused by natural disasters and those caused by other uncontrollable circumstances. The plans are reviewed regularly each quarter by IGT’s management team. InterGlobe can offer various tiers of business continuity plans to its clients for ensuring undisrupted operations in the event of data loss, server failure, connectivity failure, and people turn over across various positions.
InterGlobe has an office in Chennai (located in a different cosmic zone), which can be quickly converted to a working office (the space is furnished an internet enabled). Based on Galileo’s need, InterGlobe can agree on the timelines by which this office can be manned. The data transfer can be completed within 48 hours. This facility is dedicated to Galileo India for serving the travel agents in the southern region. InterGlobe’s ‘data security and storage policy’ eliminates any data loss possibility and its state-of-the-art data centre has been designed with ample back up for servers and connectivity. Moreover, the in-house technical and IT support desk is manned 24X7, trouble-shooting any technology issues at the earliest. InterGlobe has procedures in place to physically check the condition of the communications set-up.  Practices are also in place for periodic maintenance checks to ensure uninterrupted communication systems are available at all times. Though InterGlobe’s attrition rate is much lower compared to industry standards, the company always maintains buffer human resource levels for unanticipated people turn-over cases. A second-in-command is identified and trained for key/critical positions - who takes charge in case of loss of the primary responsible holder for such positions.
